Unmanageable?

What does unmanageable mean to you?

For me, I look at my life right now without God. Just me. Can I manage? Or do I need Power?
If I go to God for Power, am I ducking responsibility?

If so, how so?

  1. Cop out ?

You mean by owning your problems and assessing them and working toward resolving them - with God's help ?

AA is anything but a cop out.
You sound like you've been listening to the st clowns too much. They have no idea what AA is about.

  2. For one thing, there's a thread on SR where a newbie or someone not necessarily versed on the A.A. program is going on about being a real alcoholic, yet with a life that is not unmanagable. Almost like it's damaging and negative to "throw in the towel" and needing access to Power in order to survive is a "cop out."

The ST clowns will flatly tell anybody within ear shot that seeking God is weak and is only a way to duck responsibility.

I find it to be to the contrary. If I had access power at any given time and always did and will, I would have never been alcoholic nor would I have been sent to A.A. nor would I be seeking recovery from booze. I would have just stopped or moderated.

I have Power though now. I am managing my own life. I have a host of friends. Financial insecurity has left me. I am not powerless. But does it all exist in and of myself? This is where I part from many folks. I have access to Power. There have been times and will be sometime in the future, times when I do not have access to this power and am stuck. A person like me that stays there for long will no longer be able to manage and will be drunk.

Yup. If I had the power to quit, I would have done so long before I got to AA.

And to say the AA program is weak is a sign that they've never worked it. The AA program is probably the hardest thing you'll ever do, in certain respects. It's hard to face your ego and try to change some basic things about your nature.

The reason the anti-AA's think it's easy is because they spent their time in AA gossiping and minding everyone elses business instead of working a program of their own.
